Convert Care

Supporting the needs of new Muslims, and Muslims reconnecting with their faith, in a safe, friendly, and non-judgmental environment.

The initial years of conversion can be confusing and overwhelming for the new Muslim with a lot to take on and learn. We have found that most converts who find their feet in the religion and community have had a helping hand along the way. Similarly, we have found that those who have struggled often report feelings of isolation and a profound lack of support and understanding from the Muslim community.

Throughout the year, our Convert Care program offers a variety of classes, workshops and events on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis. Tailored for new converts, reconnecting Muslims, and those interested in learning more about Islam, these offer ongoing support and guidance to help converts on their journey.

Annual dinner

Benevolence hosts an annual dinner that is open to the community, bringing people together to build positive relationships over a shared meal. Featuring prominent guest speakers to motivate and inspire, this event is a great opportunity for the community to meet and mingle.

Courses and Workshops

Our courses on what Muslims believe and practice include Intro to Islam, How to Pray, and Preparing for Ramadan. The spiritual dimensions are explored in addition to the physical rituals. Sessions are conducted in a small group environment, encouraging interaction and active participation for everyone.

Conversations

A monthly forum in which we discuss important topics relevant to the Muslim community but which are rarely explored, in a friendly, non-judgmental atmosphere. Held on the first Saturday evening of each month, these discussions are open for everyone to attend.

Convert catch-ups

The quarterly convert catch-ups is specifically for converts to Islam, and their family/friends, regardless of religious background, to gather and share experiences, gain support, and network with other converts in the community.

Convert Facebook group

This group has been set up with converts in mind to keep you better connected, and a space to share relevant articles, media and other events of interest happening in Melbourne.
